Family Literacy/Math Night

This year’s spring family night at Carver Elementary was deemed a success by parents, students and staff. The event revolved around the school wide read of The World According to Humphrey; 560 books went home with students and 330 family members came to share what they learned in the Humphrey bingo game. Other stations for families were the Aqualand exhibit of hamsters and how to care for them, origami hamster making, and a building walk for families to vote on their favorite classroom Humphrey door. The winning class, Gina Schaffer’s fifth grade, won a pizza party. One very lucky student, Helena in first grade was part of the family whose adoption papers were chosen to take home their own dwarf hamster, thanks to math teacher, Paul Greene and Aqualand. Families also got a taste of the second Humphrey book in the series in the read aloud room and each family was given their own copy of Friendship According to Humphrey.
